GMAW or MIG Welding Machine The technically correct term for this type of welding is Gas Metal Arc Welding or GMAW. So the shielding gas may or may not be Carbon Dioxide. However due to low cost and easy availability of Carbon Dioxide, it is used as the shielding gas in majority of Mig welding application. This is why it is sometimes known as CO2 welding. This process is also known as MIG or MAG welding. MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas and MAG for Metal Active Gas. The power source required for this type of welding must capable of delivering current at a constant voltage even if the arc length or current changes. In some special cases GMAW can also be done with constant current or AC power sources. However the machines given below are all of DC constant voltage type. |
